Exhaustion

I spent the last couple ‘o days (e.g. the weekend) cleaning up around the house, or more specifically, the part of the house I live in.  I spent Saturday cleaning my bathroom (something I had not done in quite some time, I might add) and the hallway, and for the first time in a long time, I actually mopped.  Or, I Swiffered, rather, as I don’t know how to use a mop and bucket.

Anyhoo, I scrubbed the floors down in the hall and washroom, and got rid of a lot of grime that had built up over the past… few months since the last time I bothered cleaning.  I was actually pretty impressed with how well the Swiffer WetJet worked.  For the longest time I thought those sorts of things were simply fads, and that they probably didn’t provide any better of a cleaning job than traditional products.   (That might still be the case of course, since whenever I try to use a mop I just end up spreading the dirt around, since I’ve never been taught the proper method for its use.)

After focusing on the floors, I ended up taking a duster (a Swiffer Duster, at that) to the walls and what-have-you to get rid of cobwebs, etc.  I also cleaned the toilet, sink, shower–the whole shebang.  It’s not that I don’t clean those often (the only thing I find myself too lazy to clean are the floors, really) but I figured I might as well do it all at once.  Once I felt that the bathroom and hallway had been sufficiently scoured, I decided to take a break before cleaning my bedroom.  Although that never… actually happened.  In fact, I put it off until today, Sunday.

When I woke up this morning, I immediately started to clean up.  I didn’t go through my usual routine of preparing myself for the day, as I knew I wouldn’t be leaving the house at all anyway.  I didn’t see the need to be clean myself, if I was just going to work up a sweat cleaning my surroundings.  So after foregoing my traditional morning shower, I started planning out my … plan for cleaning my room.

I took stock of everything I wanted to move, and where I wanted to move it.  I decided which parts of the room I should tackle first, and I even went so far as to put it off for nearly two hours, claiming I was working by planning things out so thoroughly.  It’s not that I didn’t want a cleaner room, it’s that I just didn’t feel up to cleaning it until I had fully awoken.  Surprisingly enough I didn’t feel the need to eat something before cleaning.

After lolly-gagging and dragging my heels as long as I could, I got up, started to clean up the various cans or dishes I had sitting around the room, and took a bunch of them upstairs.  I picked up any trash or old receipts I had neglected to clean up when I had been using them, and started to throw them into a large Sears bag.  After I was sure I had found all of the trash, I went out into the hallway, and started making a pile of things that had to go upstairs, including trash, laundry, and a few things I had brought down and never bothered returning.

I quickly discovered my innate sense of slothfulness again, and ended up sitting back down at my laptop to check the news once more.  One of the reasons I do my cleaning on the weekend is that there isn’t enough to distract me from the task at hand.  I usually rue the weekends, since there’s never any new news posted on my usual list of sites that I check, but in this case, it worked out for me.  I ended up seeing a tweet from @ustream talking about “Weird Al” Yankovic being the guest on some show I had never heard of, and saw that it was on in one-and-a-half hours.

I wanted to watch this show, so I decided to do my best to be finished cleaning by 5:00 PDT.  With a renewed sense of energy (and some awesome tunes playing in the background) I set back about my task of cleaning, and started to put things into storage, bring others out of storage, put things back on shelves, put my laundry all in one place, and pick up all the remotes, controllers, USB cables (there were 8 of them on the floor, not including ones running from controllers or other devices to consoles or my TV/cable box), and other small bits of whatever off of the floor.

By that point I felt ready to vacuum, so I made the trek upstairs to retrieve the vacuum cleaner, as well as take everything that needed to go back up there… back up there.  After returning cutlery, dishes, and various bottles and cans to their rightful places… I realized I hadn’t eaten anything, and found myself famished.  It was around that time that I made myself up a few toasted Dijon turkey and Swiss submarine sandwiches from scratch.  They were delicious.

Afterwards I came back downstairs with the vacuum, and… proceeded to sit back at the computer.  I switched the music playing from the iTunes DJ (it’s just what Apple calls “random”) to one of my Apoptygma Berzerk playlists–specifically one containing tracks from 7 and The Apopcalyptic Manifesto–as I find they’re great to clean up to.

After finally moving the last things back wherever they had to go, I unplugged my heater, and put it on my bed.  I followed suit with my Rock Band 2 Drum Set, the caddy I keep my remotes and various cables in/on, and my laundry basket and bag.  By that point it was 4:47, so I decided to quickly vacuum before “Kevin Pollak’s Chat Show” started on Ustream.  After a few minutes of figuring how the hell the vacuum worked (I put the thing together, you think I’d remember how it worked!) I set it to the proper setting for my carpet, and went around the room… vacuuming.

I’m sure you’ve all vacuumed before, so I’ll spare you the details. (And if you haven’t vacuumed, you don’t know what you’re missing.  Lower back pain is awesome, by the way.)

Anyway, by the time I was done, the show was just starting, and I discovered that Al wouldn’t be on for a few more minutes most likely, so I skipped the opening dialogue/monologue, and grabbed a drink, put the vacuum away, and put the stuff in my room back where it was before.  I then spent about.. two and a half hours watching the aforementioned show before realizing I never got around to putting my bedding on to wash.

And come to think of it… I never took it out and put it on to dry!

9 days ago, this blog turned 4 years old.  And that’s only in its’ current iteration–it was alive without WordPress for a short period before that, too.  That’s just quite the thing to swallow–to think that I’ve been posting random crap to the internet for 4 years.  I’ve spent around $10 on domain fees each year, that’s only maybe $45… That’s so worth it.  (I have free hosting from a friend of mine.  Thanks, zeebsie!)

Anyway, it has come to my attention that i never ever post anymore, and while that’s still going to remain true (it’s hard to write something when you just aren’t in the mood, y’know?  I have like blogger’s block.  I can write a short-ass quip for Twitter or a Facebook status, but a whole … post?  About what I had for breakfast?  Naw.) it’s nice to know that I’m here, now, writin’ something up.

So I got new glasses the other day.  Two days ago, to be exact.  They’re spiffy beyond all belief, especially because they’re the RIGHT prescription.  When I got my old glasses, they were completely wrong, and my old optometrist refused to acknowledge that fact and replace them or even give me a discount on a new pair, or something.  But now that my eyes are adjusting to the new prescription, I find I can see more details in certain things every day.  It’s awesome.  I can read all sorts of signs that are far away that I couldn’t even tell were there before. ;)

In other news, my shifts at work have changed.  I used to work Monday night from 7PM ’til 11PM/12AM, Wednesday from 3PM ’til 6:30/7:00PM, and Thursday from 7PM ’til 1 or 2 AM.  Now I work Tuesday from 9:00AM ’til 6:00PM, Wednesday is the same deal, and I have the same Thursday shift as before.  So basically, I have to get to bed real early Monday night, so I can get up Tuesday, have a few hours after working Tuesday to go to bed/have dinner/relax, get up, go to work on Wednesday, and after work Wednesday I get to try and stay up late, so I can get up late enough on Thursday to stay up ’til 3AM working.  Then I get to try and fix my sleep over the next 4 days so I can get up on Tuesday again.   It’s good pay, so I can’t complain, I guess.  (And by good pay, I mean minimum wage stretched over more hours than before.)

Now that I have my new gaming laptop (yay!) I find myself drawn to purchase more and more games, but also I’m going back and playing games I haven’t in done so with in ages.  I bought Red Alert 3, and have been playing it, but I’ve gone back to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and have started playing it religiously.  I’ve been playing tonnes of Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties (which is a damn shame, since it seems that Ensemble Studios has gone kaput–I’ve been playing the Age series since its’ inception in 1997.) as it seems the only reason I had gotten bored with it before was due to my inflexibility–I was unwilling to play anyone but the Ottoman Empire.  I had dabbled with the Iroquois with the release of The Warchiefs and the Japanese with The Asian Dynasties, but I always went back to the Ottomans.  Then one day, on a whim, I tried the Russian Empire.  Turns out they suit my play style perfectly.  Ultimately though, the reason I play so much AoE3:TAD is because it’s the only game me and Ben can play with Ty, since he doesn’t have any of the others we play.

Ben has been trying to get me back into Company of Heroes, but I’m still so not in the mood for any game set in the World War II era.  That’s what’s keeping me back from buying Call of Duty: World at War (other than the fact that it was developed by Treyarch, whose CoD3 was an utter disappointment, except for the main theme from the game) since when I see the World War II-themed commercials, I get sick to my stomach. CoD4 moved me forward from WWII into Modern Warfare, and I don’t want to go back.

Anyway, finally, I will share my thoughts on Left 4 Dead, Valve’s new 4 player co-op zombie apocalypse shooter:  I don’t like it very much.  I don’t have 3 friends to play it with.  If I did, two of them wouldn’t take it seriously, and would get us all killed.  It only has 4 or 5 levels or something–I’ll wait for a few more map releases, and maybe a price drop.  (Or I’d play it if I got it as a gift, that’d be aight.)

Bizarre.

I find myself at my computer as much as ever lately, but I also find that not only do I never post any updates to my blog (usually caused by my incessant tweeting on Twitter) but I also never ever post any updates to Twitter, either, lately.  I just don’t feel the compulsive urge to update every time I do anything anymore.  It might come back, who knows.

But for now, yes, expect less blog/Twitter postage. :(

(That’s not to say I’m not active online–I still use ze internet like 24/7. or.. 12/7, as I sleep from time to time.)

P.S.  It might be because I spend all of my time playing videogames as of late–Team Fortress 2, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts, Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life 2, Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath, etc.  (Oh, and on that note, I pre-ordered Red Alert 3!  W00t!)

Oh damn, I just realized I never even posted when I got ma’ new laptop, known as Weatherlight, or there’d be a Weatherlight category.  I’ll have to make a full post about that sometime, but for now, it’s a gaming laptop by ASUS, a G50V-A1.  It’s rock solid.  (And apparently heart touching, according to ASUS’ slogan.)

All these pictures…

Are killing my blog’s style.  Maybe it’s the way Flickr formats the posts, maybe it’s the fact I never write anything verbose anymore, I don’t know.  But what I do know is that I have been spending quite a bit of cash lately, and getting all sorts of new gadgets and/or tech toys. I bought a new laptop, a BlackBerry Curve, a PlayStation 3, and tonnes of games in the last few months.  I’ve been spending money like mad, and I think it’s finally time to save some cash.  I have a few more purchases to make before I go into savings mode:

  1. Pants.  Would you believe I only own two pairs of pants–one of which doesn’t fit all that well?  Yeah, true story.  I need more.
  2. Glasses.  I’ve dealt with the wrong prescription for years now, and it’s time to call it quits.  I’ll be buying a new pair of lenses/frames pretty soon at Costco, just as soon as I save up the dosh.
  3. A headset for my laptop–Something with nice speakers, and a good microphone.  I’ve got a few choices/ideas already.
  4. World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King.  I want it.  No, seriously, more Warcraft lore = yes.  Plus Arthas kicks ass.

There are a few other things I’m interested in as well, but I wouldn’t call them major purchases–more issues of “Y: The Last Man”, Gears of War 2 whenever it gets cheap, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts.. just a few cheap expansions, comics/graphic novels, actual novels, and a game while on sale, here and there.
