I awoke feeling absolutely great. I had gone to work the day prior, and now that I had a day off, I felt compelled to make the absolute most of it, knowing I worked again tomorrow.
It felt great to have a purpose, and to want to get as much done in a day as possible. Time off is great, but only when you want it.. not when you’re too sick to do anything.
Granted all I did other than play WoW and watch Earth: Final Conflict was clean up my room, and play some NHL 10 with Ty and Jeff… but it still rocked.
Oh, and I discovered the source of my WoW problems. I was convinced that there was no possible way it could be overheating. After all, I take care of my computer, right? Well, yeah, but I haven’t ever cleaned it out (physically) due to fear of voiding the warranty.
My warranty isn’t up ’til October 24th this year (at which point I’ll send it in for one last refurbish/clean/etc) but I found out on the ASUS website that you’re allowed to open the back cover/panel and clean out the fan, replace, RAM, etc.. so long as certain stickers aren’t removed.
So I did just that, cleaned out the fan completely with Q-Tips and compressed air (and a lot of care!) and now it’s running at a much lower temperature, and WoW doesn’t lag at all.
What’s really weird though is I wasn’t having any problems in other (much more graphically intensive) games like Battlefield: Bad Company 2, or .. well, anything.
Sure, it got wicked hot and super loud, but it always has.. hasn’t it? Or I guess I just got used to it. >.>
From now on I’ll open and clean it every 3-6 months. I’ll just check the temperature sensors once a month, and see how it’s doing.
Either way, lack of crazy 3-5 FPS in WoW? Fantastic!
