Matt Damon is The Informant!
So today I had a busy schedule, especially for a day off. None of it was anything that really mattered, mind you, all frivolities, but it’s the frivolous things that matter sometimes, and today was a day spent relaxing.
I didn’t even get out of bed until something like 2PM, mostly because I got home from work the night before at 2 AM, and my parents were still awake (and watching TV loudly) so very late at night.
Once I fell asleep last night I slept straight through, but I didn’t actually get to sleep until something between 3 and 4 AM, so getting up tomorrow for work at 9 AM will be fun. But enough about sleep.
What matters is how I spent my day, and how I spent it was doing nothing at all. I watched a tonne of TV and a movie, and a podcast. That’s it. All watching.
From 3:30 PM ’til 4:30 PM I watched a poker tournament on TV, from 4:30 – 7:30 I watched a Pay-Per-View Canucks game versus Tampa Bay (and Ohlund! Oh how I miss Ohlund…)
From 7:30 – 9:30 I watched a movie at the local Raven’s Cry Theatre titled “The Lovely Bones”, and thought it was fantastic, if not quite sad. From 9:45 – 10:45 I watched LOST, and since around 11 I’ve been watching Diggnation, a podcast.
After I’m finished Diggnation I’ll be watching The Daily Show with Jon Stewart followed by the Colbert Report. It’s at this time that I plan on going to sleep, but if not I’ll probably watch some more TV to help me wind down.
Y’know, from all the hectic TV-watching.
Anyway, if you’re curious as to the origins of the pictured poster, when my Mom and I went to see The Lovely Bones today, there was a huge table covered in posters, with a sign that said “Free Posters” on it. So I looked through, and much to my surprise found the poster to my favourite movie of 2009–The Informant!
I first heard of The Informant! sometime in the summer while on a 3 or 4 day vacation in Richmond at the River Rock Casino Resort. I spent one of my days there watching a tonne of movies (more than on day spent watching movies, but one doing nearly nothing but) and while on my way to see The Proposal at the Coquitlam Silver City, I saw this poster on the wall.
It immediately caught my eye, and I think the reason I like it so much is because of how great the marketing behind the movie is. I had never heard of the film. I was a semi-fan of Matt Damon, but had really only seen him in The Bourne series and Ocean’s Eleven through Thirteen.
As soon as I saw the poster I was excited. “Unbelievable!” I thought to myself, “Matt Damon is The Informant!” Even though I knew nothing of the film (or book it’s based off of) and didn’t even know if it was awful, I wanted to see the film, and I was excited. I don’t usually let myself fall for advertising, but this one worked. And it worked well.
So I decided later on to see the film, although I didn’t get around to it for nearly 6 months. I was excited about the Blu-ray release as well, as it turns out the film was really quite good, but was saddened to see that while the cover for the movie was incredibly similar, it didn’t include the giant “un-believ-able” I had come to know and love.
So when I saw this poster today, I was once again filled with excitement. “Unbelievable!” I thought to myself, “They have the poster for The Informant!”
And so now every day I get to see Matt Damon’s face showing complete awe when I get up in the morning. And that’s fantastic.
