So the 2010 Winter Olympics officially kick off in about 8 days, all of 4 hours from here. We’ve had increased tourism lately, but not nearly as much as Vancouver itself does, obviously.
I traveled to Vancouver just a week ago now, and it was insane. Everything was covered in ads supporting the Olympic Games, there were tourist guides all over the place, and a myriad of people who didn’t yet understand our culture.
‘s’cool though, it’s Canada. We’re glad to have them. While down last week I encountered a family that had traveled from Europe just to see the games, and what was awesome is that their son–who had moved to Canada upon maturity–was the one showing them around, and they were staying with him, etc.
He told me that until that moment he had been considered the black sheep for leaving the family and moving to Canada, but now they all respected his vast knowledge of everything going on around them. I thought it was awesome.
Anyhoo, I had to get up way too early this morning to take this picture, and I work way too late tonight (and well into it) to keep blogging away all day. I need to either get A) some rest or B) some coffee if I’m going to be up all night doing paperwork.
So if you’ll excuse me…

That is an awesome photo. I remember as a kid when the Olympic torch came through my town for the 1996 games in Atlanta. It felt like one of those once in a lifetime moments.
