01/31/2010 – Perfect Timing

So last Friday (or two days ago, if you will) I finally attended another “Magic Night” at our local mall. I was integral (along with a few friends) in setting up the event in the first place, and have been to nearly every one, but I found myself missing them lately.

Y’see, the weekly event (formerly biweekly until Octoberish) was put on hiatus from after December 11 until January 8th, 2010, and I felt awful thinking I’d have to wait three or more weeks until playing Magic again, after the holidays.

Well by the time the Magic Night started up again, my hours were in a state of flux, and had been since mid-December. I found myself working weird shifts for a while, but after I went back to my normal schedule, I was still working later shifts than usual until very recently.

That finally ended, and I was able to attend again two days ago, and it was awesome. I hadn’t realized how much I missed it. I got to see my friends, got to play some Magic, got free refreshments.. but mostly the Magic/Friends was awesome.

I then spent the majority of Saturday after that (yesterday, if you will) playing Magic all over Vancouver with my friends Jeff and Ty, and during that weird but awesome trip we ended up buying tonnes of boosters and a few sets o’ Planechase, etc. It was awesome.

I’m glad I’ve gotten back into Magic again (even though I was only without it for about a month) because the next expansion set, Worldwake, comes out officially on February 5th 2010. For those not in the know, that’s this Friday. This coming Magic Night.

There’s only one thing I like more than a Magic Night. And that’s a Magic Night where everyone is pissed off because they can’t get cards from the latest set, because someone else bought ‘em all.

I’m planning on either calling or going into The Lions Den (the local hobby shop, whose owner Dan runs the Magic Night at the Trail Bay Centre every Friday) and seeing how much Worldwake he’ll be getting in, and if I can have him set some aside for me.

Here’s hoping Friday is awesome, and that I get at least one Worldwake booster. ;)

(P.S. The photo is of my “pile o’ recent cards” that have yet to be sorted… most of which I picked up yesterday in the city. I’m planning on going through them either tonight or tomorrow, sorting ‘em, filing ‘em away, and maybe looking for some deck ideas. I love Magic!)

01/30/2010 – With Friends Like These… I’m lucky!

Seriously, awesome day today. Spent the day in Vancouver with my friends Ty and Jeff (pictured, left to right) and I can’t even begin to describe how awesome our trip was.

I’m outrageously sore, and I’m tired beyond belief, but I had more fun than I’ve had in quite a while, so I don’t regret going by bus/SkyTrain/foot at all.

I hope we do so again next month… well, maybe after the Olympics, actually.

I’d write a longer post, but I’m just too beat. I need to eat something, and go to bed.

…Alright, because I feel I should at least document part of the trip, here’s a sparse bullet point list of what we did….

1. We took two ferries, two buses, and 4 SkyTrains.

2. We ate at all of two meals, but I got to eat KFC Popcorn chicken and a Dairy Queen Skor Cappuccino Blizzard. (Fantastic.)

3. We played a ridiculous amount of Magic, most of it taking place at the Brentwood Shopping Centre in Burnaby.

4. We bought some Planechase decks and a tonne of boosters, but some were resealed, and that sucked.

(An explanation of ze picture: We took the ferry down, and I noticed this awesome sign saying that we were entering an area operating at Marsec Level 1. I had no idea what it was, but thought it was a KICK ASS sign, so I had my friends pose in front of it. Figured it was the best picture of the day.)

01/29/2010 – The Gathering

So every Friday night there’s a bit of a Magic-related gathering held at the local Trail Bay Centre. We call it the “Magic Night”, and even though it’s on Friday, it’s not a Friday Night Magic event.

Anyhoo, I’d not attended the Magic Night for over a month, partly due to there being a Christmas/New Years’ hiatus, partly due to me working crazy-late Thursday shifts the night before.

Either way, this week I got off work just before midnight on Thursday, so I had plenty of energy to attend our Magic Night, and I had a blast.

The photo might be crap, but the memories attached to it were worth making it my Project 365 photo for the day.

01/28/2010 – Fight For the Lost

I’ve been waiting for Mass Effect 2 to come out for a while, and even preordered it. But due to complications, the local store I preordered it at canceled my preorder a few weeks ago, and I had to preorder it again, this time from Amazon.ca. Well luckily for me, Amazon still had copies of the “Collectors’ Edition” and I wouldn’t have to make due with a copy of ME2 with awful box art.

Amazon shipped the game the day it came out, and it only took two days to get here, but let me tell you–it felt like a lifetime. Anyway, when I got up this morning, I rushed upstairs to see if UPS had delivered it yet. They had, so I grabbed a bowl of cereal, and disappeared into my room for 4 hours. I then came out only to order a pizza for dinner, and then went back to playing.

Long story short (except not) I spent the whole day playing Mass Effect 2 until I had to go to work. I’m just about on my way there now, where I’ll be up all night working ’till anywhere from midnight to 2 AM. After that I’ll come home and sleep, just to get up and play all day tomorrow.

Also someone please stop me from using the Flickr app for the iPhone–it’s SO buggy!
