The years burn…

Alright, so, I’m bored and alone right now. Nearly all of my friends are out of town right now, either visiting family, or shopping. The few who aren’t are busy preparing to leave tomorrow. Usually on days like this, I’ll spend time with my parents, since I don’t often get to do that during the week. Unluckily, this is their day off, and they’re going out to a party with some friends, so, I’m left to find something else to do. It’s not like this hasn’t happened before, it’s just usually I have other places I turn to find someone to talk to, or something to do.

The first of these things is IRC. I hang out on DALnet with a few friends I’ve known online for years. They’re not a backup or contingency plan for if I have no one else to do anything with or talk to, and in no way do they take second place on my roster of people to talk to. In fact, there have been times when I’ve told Ben I was busy, and didn’t play a a game with him, ’cause I was chatting on the intarwebs. But, sadly, there’s no one online tonight. I have a backup for when this happens though, which is watching Chris Pirillo live, at http://live.pirillo.com , and talking to the people in the chat room there, as the antics of Chris Pirillo never get old. But of course, as luck would have it, he’s out on a date with his wife Ponzi, so there’s no one to talk to in that chat room either.

Sometimes I’ll hangout on freenode, and talk to people in #WordPress. But of course, it’s full of idlers right now. So, as I sit here, listening to The Smashing Pumpkins(a band I don’t necessarily like all that much, just three of their songs) I find myself with nothing to do, other than blog about it. How… teenaged angst/emo of me, eh?

One might suggest that I watch a movie to find something to do. Problem is, I’ve already watched three movies today. I saw Transformers this morning, watched Reign Over Me this evening with my parents, and watched a movie about farmers on –TBS– PeachtreeTV today, which really blew. One might then suggest that I read a book, but sadly, I’ve read everything I have right now. I’m just waiting for Halo: Contact Harvest and Assassin’s Creed: The Invisible Imam to be released, and then come in the mail.

One might also suggest that I play a game or something, seeing as I’m quite the gamer most often. But I’m gamed out right now. I spent nearly all of yesterday playing Team Fortress 2 with Ben and Quin. Seriously, like.. 6.5 hours of it in total, four of those in a row. I tried the Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock demo on my 360 the other day, and while I thought it was really cool, I’m not sure I’d be willing to buy it. $100 is a lot of cash for a game I might grow tired of quickly. Those two games alone have made me kind of tired of gaming, but to top it all off, I tried the Hellgate: London demo a few hours ago, which I found to be absolutely horrendously awful. I hated it with nearly every fibre of my being. People keep claiming it’s like Diablo II in a lot of ways, and while it is, it just.. bothers me. I don’t like the story, the gameplay, or the graphics.

The one thing I did like, however, was one of the quests in which you’re tasked with finding a young boy’s prosthetic leg. He decides to call himself Wart. Seriously. Wart’s leg? That’s awesome, as any Diablo fan will attest to. (I also like Wirt’s Third Leg in WoW, that’s awesome.)

Anyway, this post is getting long, and I have put quite a lot of effort into it, for what little I’ll get back. To sum it up, I’m bored, and I want someone to talk to, or something to do. I’ll just have to keep looking, but I’m even out of podcasts to watch. I’m bored bored bored bored bored, and if I don’t find something to do soon, I’m probably going to end up just eating and watching Seinfeld. Though with my luck, there won’t be anything on TV at all.

October 14th Update

As taken from my Skype “mood”/”shout out box” thing:

  • Got a free copy of Vista Business.
  • Portal was awesome.
  • CoD4:MW’s campaign isn’t very cinematic.
  • Unreal Tournament 3 is freaking insane. I love it.
  • I got my Brewfest Ram. Yay!
  • I fixed my soundcard drivers, so now I can actually play games properly.
  • Jonathan Coulton is a genius.
  • Half-Life 2: Episode Two is scary. =\
  • Hagen-Dasz is expensive!

So, take from that what you will. It’s my last few days summed up into a small list of blurbs.

Unreal Tournament III

I pre-ordered UT3 from BestBuy today, because the beta demo is awesome once you get it working. I love the feel of the game, and I’m probably going to be playing a lot of it over the next year or so, seeing as I’ve done the same with UT2004 for the last three.

I love it, I want more of it. W00t.

– UPDATE –

BestBuy cancelled my pre-order for some unknown reason. Guess I’ll just buy it when it’s released.

Lazy Podcast 09: It’s been a while…

In this iteration of “The Lazy Podcast”, I pull out my long lost guitar, and attempt to play it, only to find that I now suck at it! Surprise surprise.

Funny thing, though, the callouses I got from playing it the first time still haven’t faded, so.. w00t for me.

The Flying One

I’ve been reading up a lot about Assassin’s Creed lately, and I’ve been getting pumped. I can’t wait for the game’s release!

I’ve had my wallpaper as a picture of Altair (an Assassin, the game’s protagonist) withdrawing a concealed knife to attack some well-to-do knight guy for about two months now. It came as part of the press/website pack for the game from Ubisoft’s website. The thing I like about concept art and in-game shots from these packs is they don’t have ads for the game, or the company in them. Just… a story-board done in in-game graphics. One still shot. It’s awesome.

Anyway, I’ve pretty much read every single thing about the game that has been released, and I’ve been considering pre-ordering “The Invisible Imam” (the first novel associated with the series) for a while now. I might cancel my current pre-order of Halo: Contact Harvest to include The Invisible Imam as well, so I don’t have to pay shipping twice.

Anyway, the game looks awesome.

(if you’re wondering about the title of the post, it’s what Altair means in Arabic.)
