I just need…

Update: If you decide to read this post, bare (sp?) in mind that everything was resolved moments before I finished writing the post. I got a call from my Dad, and everything is A-Ok. :)

I just need to put this somewhere. Somewhere where I can reflect upon it at a later date, and think to myself: “Heh, yeah, glad it turned out alright.

I also need to get if off my chest, and I really don’t have anyone I can talk to at length right now.

Quin is doing his Quinny thing, and I know that if I truly needed to talk at great length he’d be there for me, but it’s aight, I don’t want to bother him.

Ben is online on Skype, but seems to be ignoring his PC, or at least me and Quin, as he has been set to Not Available for a while, and when I try to call him, I get a busy signal.

My Dad is out with my Mom, and my Mom is who I need to talk about.

My mom has had a cold for a while, now, one she just can’t seem to kick. I know she’s going to be alright, as it’s not much more than a nuisance that’s giving her unrestful sleep, etc, and it’s not as if she’s going to die from it. But she can’t stop coughing. It’s been getting progressively worse for the last week, and finally, tonight, she just can’t stop coughing.

My dad took her to the hospital about an hour ago, I think. I wasn’t looking at a clock when he left. I offered to go with them, but he said I probably didn’t need to, and that I had to go to bed to get up for school, anyway. Honestly, I didn’t give it much thought. I was just happy she was finally going to the hospital to see what’s wrong. I figure she has a mild infection or something, and just needs to take cough suppressants and antibiotics for a week ’til it just clears up.

Anyway, they’re at the hospital now, and like I said, I’m that worried. I’m grateful that she finally went to get help. She tried going to the local clinic once or twice, I think, but they told her that it was just a cold. So, she figured that’s all it was. I’ve gotten the same cold, so has my dad, Quin, Ben, everyone at school, everyone at my parents’ work, etc, etc. A LOT of people have had it for over a month, and some have gotten similar cases of what my mom has, and they’ve gotten over it just fine, so like I said, not that worried.

I’m worried to the extent that anyone would be if their loved-one or even friend were sick, or in any sort of pain. I feel more of a sadness, than worry. More like I’m upset that she has to go through this, as it probably hurts like hell, and is interrupting her sleep, and making her life a bit of a living hell for the time being. I’m not in any way concerned that she won’t come home tonight. She might miss work tomorrow, but she’ll be home.

How do I know this?

My mom doesn’t get sick to this extent.

Ever.

She’s the healthiest person in my family, and I truly believe –no, I’m not just talking myself into this –that she’ll be fine. I’ve seen her have worse, and she’s bounced back.

I’m just grateful that she’s getting help. I mean, it’d be nice if she could go during the day, and not be constantly coughing to the point that she can’t do anything, but, y’know, at least she’s going.

Anyway, I just needed to write this out somewhere. Usually when I have a big problem that makes me sad, I just write it out in a text file, and delete it a few days later, but this one is something not so personal that I can post it on the blog.

I mean, sure, it’s personal, but others have gone through similar experiences, so… there you go.

Anyway, I’ll try and post tomorrow to say she’s alright, but knowing me, I’ll forget, so.. feel free to leave a comment that’s reassuring, or something, but honestly, I expect my parents to be home within the hour or so, so.. by the time I read it, it won’t help.

Thanks anyway though, eh?

Mine Goes to 850

(Possible titles for this post were as follows:
“Mine Goes to 850″
“Another One Bites the Dust”
“PSU Kicked the Bucket”
and “850: When 600 just isn’t enough.”
)

Yeah, so, my PSU –Power Supply Unit, if you will –kind of … y’know, bit the dust. It’s dead. Gone.

Anyway, it never really was the best PSU in the world, nor the most expensive. I had to cut corners when building Mjolnir–believe you me, I’d choose to have to buy another PSU down the line rather than get half as much RAM, or something –which were the PSU and Audio. Since then I’ve bought a Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic, and now, an OCZ Technologies “GameXStream” 850w PSU.

Anyway, there you go. The GameXStream should be here by Tuesday (or Wednesday, at the very latest) and until then, no PC gaming more taxing than “Star Wars: Empire at War” at low graphics, any Command & Conquer title, Age of Empires III offline only at low graphics with quite a bit of lag, or GuildWars.

It’s coo’, though. Y’know. Not like I was planning on gaming or anything.

It really sucks though, y’know? Being sick, and having nothing to take your mind off of it other than posting on your blog, reading your old issues of PCGamer, or watching movies you’ve bought on DVD, but never got around to watching, ’cause you had your beast of a gaming PC.

I’ve still got my 360, mind you, so I’ll probably be playing some CoD3 or Gears later, and maybe I’ll even get to #4 on Project 8 in the aptly titled “Tony Hawk’s Project 8.”

I don’t think there’s any way in hell I could go to school tomorrow. Hopefully I can by Tuesday, but right now my cold is still dying down, and I don’t much fancy coughing up phlegm or having a runny nose and painful sneezing with blood during German class. Now, I know what you’re thinking: “But Noble*, wouldn’t having a throat full of phlegm only improve your German pronunciation?” And the answer is no. I can pronounce words in German just fine as it is. I’ve already gone to two German classes sick, and have been unable to pronounce anything from “Hast du Geschwister?1” to “Nein, ich bin Einzelkind2.”

(*I don’t know what you would refer to me as, as there are quite a few pseudonyms I go by, as well as I don’t know if you know me in person or not.
1: Do you have any siblings?
2: No, I am an only child.
)

Anyway, I’ve gone way off topic, and I intend to stay there.

Have you ever tried eating Pizza Pops when you can’t taste or smell them? It’s horrendously awful. It makes you feel as if you are going to vomit into a cup, drink it, vomit it out once more, and then drink it again, and continue in this fashion until you pass out.

Seriously.

Okay, well, maybe not seriously.

But anyway, I’ve been typing this for a while now, and I think this post is the longest I’ve posted in a while, probably due to the fact that A) Posting long posts requires something to post about. And B) I have nothing else to do, anyway.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go look for some ChapStick or something, since my lips ache.

P.S. I’m making this post from my Lappy, if you hadn’t already guessed as much.

Inspiration…

Alright, so, inspiration comes from the oddest places.

I was upstairs, looking for some soap, when I came across one of my dad’s books in the bathroom, entitled: “The Teeth of the Tiger.” A classic Tom Clancy title.

Not saying he’s not a good writer, or anything, but it led to me this…(click to enlarge) The Lion, The Tiger, and the Bear. My latest photoshop..ping.

Basically, I’ve got way too much time on my hands when I’m sick. (Did I mention I’m sick?.. jeez, this is like.. my fourth post of today. You figure I’d mention it, eh? Anyway…)

So.. there you go.

That’s.. ma post.

Dreamfall: The Longest Cutscene

Alright, I’m usually a fan of RPGs –No, not the grenades, silly!– and this one is no different. I like it. It’s just… the game was even more addictive than Oblivion, for me. Seriously. I could not stop playing it. The only reason I ever did was to sleep, eat, or sleep and eat while I listen to the music. Only problem I had with the game was that the ending is essentially a non-ending, as it opens up more questions than the game’s plot itself did, the fact that they might have killed April Ryan–Don’t like spoilers? Tough nuggets, boy-o.–and that the fighting system is so unbelievably terrible it made me get up and yell at my computer several times.

Fighting with Kian? No problem.

Fighting with April? You stand a chance, especially if her companions are there.

Fighting with Zoe? Ha! Have fun reloading your game over and over, and not being able to skip the scene wherein you die, which is painfully slow!

Fighting with the Spider that you get to control for a split second? Whee!

Anyway, uh… I lost my point. The game was good, the story is AWESOME, and I loved it. I can easily say that I’m glad that it’s over though.

Oh, and I was playing it with my 360 wired controller. It’s hawtsome that way.

Keyboard and mouse for an RPG? No thank you, Kublai Kahn.

why is Kublai Kahn offering me a keyboard and mouse with which to play a game? I mean, not only is that impossible, but improbable. He’d just kill me. Jeez.

The Angst-ridden Teenager of Steel

So, I’ve gotten into Smallville.

And by gotten into, I mean I’ve watched the entire first season, and half of the second so far. More DVDs are on their way from Zip.ca, everyday.(tm?)

There are far too many reasons to list as to why I like the show, but here are a few to keep you off of my back:

  • I like the Superman series of movies, and I also like the comics. Seeing Clark Kent’s teenaged hijinx is just too good of an offer to refuse.
  • It reminds me quite a bit of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer“, if only because of the oddities that go on, it’s about teenagers, takes place in a high school, and there have already been several undead villains. ;)
  • Dude. Lex Luthor is awesomely… awesome. He’s so bald, and so… BALD! But in a cool way. Like, “I’m bald, but I don’t care. Y’know why? My toothpicks cost more than your mortgage!

Anyway, the series rocks, and if you haven’t checked it out–and, like me, you’re a fan of the Man of Steel–do so. You most-likely probably won’t totally regret it.*

*I don’t actually guarantee that you will like it.
