Am I … rich?
Over the last … almost week, I’ve gotten three new games.
- Company of Heroes
- Age of Empires III: The WarChiefs
- and most recently, Battlefield 2142 (via the EA Downloader)
The odd thing? I don’t have a job. Well, I fix computers, and I bought The WarChiefs with money from fixing Quin’s computer… and I got Company of Heroes from fixing Jamie’s computer… and… I got Battlefield 2142 with cash from fixing Quin’s computer, as well as cash from helping my mom with a thing on her computer.
So I guess I’m just spending my hard-earned cash on games then, yes?
Well… good for me.
Anyway, w00t for games.

well at least you’re honest enough to buy the games rather than just download pirated copies off the Internet – which i do sometimes :-(
if you’re good at fixing computers, setting up Internet connections, etc. and live in a small city you can earn some good cash helping people out. Seniors always need computer help too and are willing to pay for it.
First off, shame on you! ;) I don’t condone piracy, nor do I really take part in it. Only for small things; like a song I can’t find on a pay service, or one that I know I don’t like, but is stuck in my head. Then I delete ‘em.
Also, you’re right. Seniors will pay for tech help. Usually they want to pay me too much though. =\ But I’m not going to refuse the extra. That’s awkward. Like the other week, I got $50 for setting up Firefox and a whole slew of anti-malware software on someone’s computer. I also got rid of all the viruses and malware they already had, showed ‘em how to do a few things, installed Windows updates, fixed the size of their pagefile, etc. All really easy things. It only took like an hour, and I only wanted like $25, but they demanded that I take $50.
So.. w00t for me?
well songs are fine. 99cents a song is nothing really.
But what about programs like Adobe Photoshop, Acrobat Professional, Macromedia Flash and Dreamweaver, etc? these programs cost a fortune :-(
A few of these programs would cost thousands of dollars a year.
Piracy is a horrible thing but to be frank, sometimes I have no other practical resort.
Oh yeah. Who hasn’t pirated Photoshop? I’d buy it in an instant if I could afford it, but the only times I’ve actually had enough dosh to buy Photoshop CS2 in a store are the same times I built my computer, and bought my laptop for school. Those things come first, eh?
I’ve tried finding an old used copy of Photoshop 7 on eBay, or something, but every copy I try ends up being pirated, I inform eBay, and get 75% of whatever I spent on it back. Yeah, that’s right, it’s still a loss.
So I just sorta stopped trying that one.
I’ll buy Photoshop one day, but it will not be this day. ‘less I win the lottery, or something, that is.
Anyway, I don’t use Acrobat, Flash, or Dreamweaver for anything, so I don’t have ‘em. I barely use Flash as it is, and when I do, I just use the trial,
I have no need for Acrobat. I can just make PDFs using free tools, and Office 2007 Beta. I don’t use Dreamweaver because I don’t like WYSIWYG programming/design when it comes to web pages. PHP ftw! ;)
Dreamweaver is a great application but I don’t think future versions will be as good after Adobe bought Macromedia. Adobe’s products (except for photoshop) are full of bugs.
I use web design applications to speed up the design process and make my life simpler. I hate wasting too much time on the development. For example with SmartCanucks.ca I’d rather spend more time answering comments, replying to forum messages or posting new stuff rather than spending days on design when no one really cares.
Yep. Good reasons. Plus, you’re right: Adobe = bugs, ‘less you’re dealing with Photoshop. You can’t charge nearly $1000 CDN for software full of bugs. ;)
