Fun while it lasted.

I beat Final Fantasy VIII again. I don’t know how many times I’ve beaten it, but it’s at least… six times. I’ve gotten to the final battle many more times than that, it’s just that the final battle and ending movie are so long, that I usually just don’t feel like beating it. Anyway, that’s nothing. I’ve beaten Final Fantasy VII upwards of 40 times now, final battle and all. At least it’s a fun one.

Ben bought The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth II, and while on a bit of a break from his summer plans, we played it. All week. He goes home tomorrow, and it’s already 9:35 tonight, so I doubt we’ll play it much more before he gets back next Saturday (August 5th.)

Now that I’m sick of Zero Hour, BFMEII, and FF8 (The first two for a week, the third for a few years) I’mm’a take a break from gaming, I suppose, and go back to watching BtVS, and anime.

I’m still waiting for The Traveling Wilburys Volumes One and Three in the mail, and no new Zip.ca discs have come for quite some time. I’ve sent back the four I had out, and they claim to have sent two back to me. They’re just not ‘ere yet. The estimated arrival date at their website is July 26th and 28th for discs 4 and 5 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 4, and they haven’t as of yet recieved the two Frasier discs I sent ‘em. After they do, more discs of Medium should be on the way, but I dunno. Last time I had Medium next up on the list, they sent me Frasier, which was near the bottom. Go figure. For now, I removed Frasier from the list, since it turns out I’ve seen almost all of Season One anyway. I replaced it with the first season of Ranma 1/2! :D

Anyway, for the next week and a half, I’ll be spending my extra time watching Buffy and anime, and perhaps a few movies, but other than that, I really have no plans. I think I’mm’a get back into Empire at War though. Just ’cause I didn’t give it much of a chance in the first place. Or maybe I’ll play the Evil campaign of BFMEII, since I’m on the last mission of the good one.

Final Fantasy VIII

I bought Final Fantasy VIII for the PC today. I’ve missed that game so much. I got it running in a window, too (which rocks, since my monitor can’t handle non-widescreen resolutions with black bars ’round ‘em) using a hack called “FF8w” which was released last year. It took me forever to find a copy of it on google, so if anyone is looking, I’ve got it here.

W00t for FFVIII!

“Lucky.”

Yep. I’m lucky. No really. There’s only one type of PSP that is absoultely unable to be downgraded to 1.5, due to a block in the hardware, or something, and it is model TA-082. These are supposed to only be found in Asia, and most often only on white PSPs. But, as luck would have it, the one I bought just a month or two before, from a FutureShop.. in Canada. With a Canadian manual, and a bunch of French text all over the box.. is.. a TA-082!

Tell him what he has won, Johnny!

A pain in the ass, that’s what. It’s not even supported by “Undiluted Platinum” (worst name for a modchip ever) the PSP modchip. So what is a boy to do? Well, I’mm’a just have to wait until there’s a 2.71 downgrader (PSP came with 2.6, had to upgrade to 2.71 to play a game..) that works on the TA-082 without error. According to many sources, the TA-082 is identifiable by looking in the UMD “tray” (for lack of a better word). When you open it up, if you look at the mainboard inside, you’ll see the text “IC1003.” Mine has “C1003″, no “I”, but I’m still almost positive it’s a TA-082, because they’re the only one with any text on that part of the mainboard.

Anyway, as I was saying, I’m lucky, eh?

P.S. I bought Lumines today. It’s unbelievably good. 10/10, though it can get annoying.

Traveling Wilburys

I just bought The Traveling Wilburys’ Volume One and Three off of eBay. Legit out-of-print CDs, for the win. I’ve loved the Traveling Wilburys for years, but have been unable to find both of their albums in one auction, with a no-bootleg guarentee, and actual photographic proof that they’re legit. So, I bought ‘em. Thank you eBay!

P.S. The seller e-mailed me within a day of purchase telling me it was in the mail. Nice of him/her, eh? :) I love nice eBayers.

Quake IV

I ordered Quake 4 about.. four days ago, and it arrived yesterday. I of course took this opportunity to beat the game in 7 and a half hours. While it did rock, I just wish it were longer than it was… though I was actually quite relieved when it was over, just because I could have my life back. ;)

Anyway, most games games in which you fight aliens or monsters (e.g. Doom III, Half-Life 2, Diablo II, all the other games in those series) usually freak me out. I mean, I can have nightmares for a week just from playing a part of Half-Life 2 that involves Barnicles and Head-Crabs. While that doesn’t happen so much with Doom or Diablo, they still freak me out. I don’t know what it is about Quake 4, but it just doesn’t bother me at all. Killing the Strogg hordes in the game is just.. a refreshing change from fighting other soldiers. (Oop! I just thought of something else that freaks me out. The Halo Series’ “Flood.” Thinking of ‘em just make me shudder.)

Anyway, the game rocks, the storyline rocks, and the engine rocks. I admit, I like Unreal Tournament 2004 more for killing people online, but Quake 4 will always have a special place in my heart. (Kind of like Team Fortress Classic.)
