Preperations

I’ve not made a lot of posts lately, because I’ve been spending every free waking moment looking up various parts and the like for Mjolnir, and preparing to build the PC.

I’ve finally chosen my final parts list, and even submitted it to NCIX for approval (there’s a guy there making sure everything is in stock, and giving me exact price quotes. If the parts I want aren’t quite available yet, he’s pre-ordering them so when I place my order during the first week of May, they’ll be ready) and have stopped bargain hunting. When not doing this for the last week, I’ve been at school.

It’s nearing the end of the school year, and since Mjolnir will be here throughout the vacation, I’m making preperations for excercise during the summer, such as walking three or four times a week, finding a good route, et al. This way I won’t sit in front of the beautiful 20.1 inch wide Viewsonic LCD gaming for hours on end, while gaining a helluva lot of weight. :o

Anyway, I’ll be going down to Vancouver on the 8th (Monday… the next one, not this one) and I’ll be stopping by an IKEA to buy a computer desk and chair, some shelves for behind my compy (also to hold up my rear speakers) and possibly some sort of bed-side table, because I don’t have one. I’m also buying a new alarm clock, a few games, and some clothing. My mom will be stopping by a college, or .. some sort of school, to sign up for some courses she’s interested in taking. After all of this, we’ll stop by NCIX/Netlink Computer and pick up Mjolnir. Then we’ll head home, and I’ll build it. :)

Well, I’ve got to get back to thinking about non-computing stuff, by watching a movie, or something. Maybe I’ll go for a walk. ;)

Free as a Bird

A little while ago, whilst watching The Beatles: Anthology, I first heard a song by the Beatles circa 1977/1994 (read on). The song, Free as a Bird –originally not more than a demo tape by Lennon held by Yoko Ono– was written partially by John Lennon, in 1977, and finalized/rewritten in 1994 by the three other Beatles.

I had not understood the meaning of this song ’til now, so I’ll try and show you what I think the song means.

Free as a bird,
it’s the next best thing to be.
Free as a bird.

Here, John is saying that there’s something better than just roaming around doing what you will with life. This doesn’t refer to freedom, like freedom of speech, or the right to choose, blah blah blah, it refers to being able to get up in the morning, and just go for a walk if you feel like it, rather than going to work, or having a family to worry about. I think it refers to being a bachelor, or just living on your own, with no one else to worry about.

Home, home and dry,
like a homing bird I’ll fly
as a bird on wings.

Here, they’re saying that being home, and with family is what is really important. It’s nice to be loved, and to wake up to someone you care about. He’s saying that while he is free during the day, to do what he will, he still has to care about his family. And at the end of the day, he rushes home to be with them, because while being alone and doing what you will can be nice, spending time with those you care about is better.

Whatever happened to
the life that we once knew?
Can we really live without each other?

Here, Paul is singing about how he has broken up with who he lives with, or who he cares about, and has gone back to being “free as a bird.” He’s wondering if he could possibly live like this, as it’s only “the next best thing to be.”

Where did we lose the touch
that seemed to mean so much?
It always made me feel so…

Here, Paul is saying how he can’t live without whoever he broke up with anymore, and he’s longing for them, and his life as a partner to someone back, saying that he felt free in that manner as well, free to love.

The song then continues on, finally coming to a close with a fade out, until the end, when we hear an odd song being played on a ukulele, and John saying “Turned out nice again, heh heh heh.” backwards, which apparently the remaining Beatles hadn’t noticed was on the track.

So there you have it, my take on the Beatles’ “Free as a Bird”, which you can find the lyrics to here. As for the song itself, either go out and buy the Beatles: Anthology, or be the sick pirate that you are, and fire up your favourite P2P program. Shame! ;)

Close Shut the Jaws of Oblivion

Yes, the LANparty I held this weekend has come and gone, and once more it is time to rest and sleep. Alas, school is come again tomorrow, and I will have to get up at 6 AM to go to the gym. All in all, however, I enjoyed the LANparty, and so did Ben, Mark, Quin, and Roger Wilco. Yes, it was fun. Yes, we played games. No, not many together.

It seemed to go like this…

I would play Oblivion. For hours. On end. No seriously.
Quin would play World of Warcraft. For hours. On end. No seriously.
Mark would play TA Spring. For hours. On end. No seriously.
Ben would play random games, whilst complaining. For hours. On end. No seriously.
And finally, Roger Wilco played MechAssault 2, or Halo, or Halo 2, etc. After a while, Quin left. As did Roger Wilco, and the last people to leave were Ben and Mark. I got to try Oblivion, and TASpring, et al.. They’re all great games, and I had a great time.

In less than a week, I’m ordering the parts of Mjolnir, but I probably won’t be building it for a week after that. I will, however, order games next week from Amazon.ca, or buy a few from FutureShop, London Drugs, BestBuy, EBGames, et al. I’ll try and buy some from Amazon, though, as to support GameReplays.org. (They get 7% of the payment for what I buy if I buy it through their link, and that site rocks.)

Either way, I’ve played a lot of Oblivion over the last three days. I was just playing it a minute ago, too. “But, The Lazy Canadian!” you say. “You don’t own The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.” No, I don’t. I’m playing an installed copy from Mark’s DVD, with a no-CD thing. I’m buying the game in about a week anyway, so I’m pretty sure no one minds.

Either way, back to gaming.

Command & Conquer 3

OMG.

Enthusiasm, ho!

Yes, I’m in a very good mood today. Why, you ask? We’re finally done in Powell River. The house is set to sell in under two weeks, and I feel fine. (She’s in love with me, and I feel fine…)

Yes, I’m feeling great. Ben finally got Civilization IV, so we’ve been playin’ it.. eh, non-stopish. We would be playing it non stop, were it not for him being busy, and me having had been in PR working on “Le House.” (Ooh la la…)

I’ve been listening to various Beatles songs all day, Elton John, too. Yes, the whole way home from PR, me and my family were singing along to such songs as:

  1. Elton John’s “The Bitch is Back
  2. Elton John’s version of “Pinball Wizard
  3. The Beatles’ “Revolution

Yep. Music is teh r0x0r.

As we speak, or.. rather, as I write this, I’m listening to instrumental versions of songs from “A Hard Day’s Night.” Why? Because they are very, very, very, very good.

Either way, I’m feeling great.

Oh yeah, this boy would be happy just to love you, but oh my-yi-yi-yi;
That boy won’t be happy until he’s seen you cry-hi-hi-hi…
